Quantum was retained by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to investigate the potential causes of high groundwater throughout the vadose zone on the NIST campus in Boulder, Colorado. Seasonally-persistent high groundwater – frequently extending to ground surface – resulted in standing water conditions and poor drainage in the Project Area. Quantum determined the high groundwater issues were due to over irrigation, and poor engineering controls. An engineering plan was designed to mitigate the excess water.
